What You Need to Know:

Mexico:

  1. If you are crossing the U.S. border into Mexico it is good to have a passport but if you are working just across the border you can cross with a just a birth certificate (original or certified copy.) If you are travelling into the interior of Mexico, you will have to have a passport.
  2. You will need to bring your own bedding (sleeping bag, sheets, pillow, etc.).
  3. You will need to bring your own personal hygiene items and any medications you may need.
  4. If your team wishes to have trip or accident insurance this is your responsibility as we do not provide this.
  5. Everyone in your team will be required to fill out a medical release form.
  6. Vehicles:
    1. In most cases, we (Way of the Cross) will use our own vehicles but if you choose to use your own transportation to cross the border into Mexico you will be responsible for your vehicle’s insurance. Most U.S. insurances will cover trips across the border into Mexico (usually up to 25 miles into Mexico), but it is important to check. If you need help obtaining vehicle insurance for Mexico we are happy to help.
    2. If you are taking your own vehicle into the interior, you will need to get a vehicle permit as well as insurance.

Nicaragua:

  1. If you are travelling to Nicaragua, you will need a passport.
  2. Upon entering the country, you will go through the Nicaraguan customs and they will issue you a visa for $10.
  3. You will need to bring your own bedding (sleeping bag, sheets, pillow, etc.)
  4. You will need to bring your own personal hygiene items and any medications you may need.
  5. If your team wishes to have trip or accident insurance this is your responsibility as we do not provide this.
  6. Everyone in your team will be required to fill out a medical release form.
  7. Vehicles:
    1. We have our own vehicles in Nicaragua that we will use to pick up your group and travel during your mission trip. These vehicles are all insured.

If you or your team choose to rent a vehicle this can be done at the airport. There is usually a $1000 deductible on rental vehicles.
