30 years ago, we started the Big Feed because we saw that there was a great desperation in people during the time between Christmas and New Year’s. The very poor areas of Matamoros, Mexico, the people did not have much money to really celebrate Christmas, with no toys and very little food.

We decided to come in and have a big party where everyone received a nice meal, toys and candy for the kids and most importantly, we were able to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Many have asked about what we are going to do about the Big Feed.

We talked with the mayor’s office this past week and they are definitely not going to allow us to draw the crowd like we normally draw at the Big Feed. They said that we were welcome to go door-to-door sharing food, toys and candy. Because of COVID many of the people have not been able to work.  For the poorest of the poor, it has been a very difficult past few months for them even trying to get enough to eat.

Here’s the plan: the event days will be the same as always

December 27th 28th and 29th.

The first day: would be prayer, orientation, packing and preparing to go to Mexico.

The second day: we would travel to our Gateway Camp in Mexico, take supplies with us, set up food packing lines, make gift bags and set up barbecue grills on the Gateway camp.

The third day: On the morning of the 29th, we would rise up early travel to our Gateway camp in Mexico, barbecue chicken and cook beans. Now we would not barbecue near as much chicken as usual, probably 1500 pounds and make Charro beans.

We would split up into teams. Probably 12 people in each team.

Teams will load the vans and trailers with supplies and start going door to door in the Genesis Project squatter’s camp.

Each team would have a section assigned to them  they would go door to door sharing the gospel message, give candy, children’s gift bags and a plate of chicken for everyone in the family.

We also have some bunk beds that would be great to give out at the Big Feed. In many houses in the area, the children are laying on the floor or ground. These bunk beds will be a great blessing to the people. They are metal and for a small amount of duty the Mexican government will let us cross the border with them but they will not let us take mattresses. So we will have to buy inexpensive foam mattresses in Mexico. We would also have a team setting up bunk beds and delivering to the families.

The Big Feed will take place the 27th, 28th and 29th of December, though you are welcome to come the night before. The cost of this event would be the same as last year $185 per person please let us know if you think you can make it.

Here’s a list of some of things that we need you to bring:

Gallon size gift bags for the children, any kind of candy to give out and if you have bicycles laying around that, you are not using – we will be giving families in need a bike.

We need to work on getting some sponsors that will help buy mattresses for the bunk beds and pay the duty on the beds. The estimated cost of new mattresses and duty on the bed frame would be $150 a bed.

We would determine who needs the bunk bed and bicycles ahead of time. Where there is a will there is always a way in the service of the Lord.

We need you to help turn chicken on the grills, share the gospel, distribute toys, candy, food plates, and deliver bunk beds. There is something for everyone to do,

If you would like to help but cannot attend the Big Feed, we need gift bag handouts donated. These are 1 gallon Ziploc bags that we hand out to the kids. If your church or team would like to be involved in making and creating bags, please contact us via email at or call Ben Butler at 956-793-9801 or Theresa Spartz 956-298-1728 and we will provide you a list of items to put in the bags and what date we would need them by for the event.
