It happens every year on December 27, 28 and 29 and it is called the BIG FEED. Every year since 1988 it has gotten bigger and bigger. We have individuals, couples, families and church groups that have been coming for years and wouldn’t dream of missing out on all the fun and work.
It all started back at the beginning of the ministry.
In January 1988 it became known that a children's home in Matamoras, Mexico was
in desperate need of assistance. Ben Butler of
They started by remodeling the house by adding running water, plumbing, along with electricity and lights. When it was all done they decided to dedicate it to the Lord with a big celebration. They got volunteers from both sides of the border together for the dedication. The Lord provided a powerful evangelist to preach the Word of God from the top of an old converted school bus and after the service there was food for all those who came. That celebration turned into what we now call the Big Feed.
Today the Big Feed is what we call all day preaching, praying, singing and dinner on the grounds. We always have the Big Feed in an area where the poorest of the poor live and where they spend all day every day trying to get enough food to eat that day.
Preparations for next year’s Big Feed starts just as soon as the last one is finished. It takes a lot of planning and effort to have everything ready to feed thousands of people in one day. We start collecting and putting items back in a special place within the warehouse that will be given away at the Big Feed. There are bicycles, sewing machines along with other items that make a huge difference in a family’s life in Mexico.
Organization and preparations really get underway starting December 27 and 28th. As people arrive they get assigned a place to stay and then they are put to work getting everything ready for the 29th.
On December 29th one group leaves before sun up to get everything ready for the main group arrival. There is always plenty to do everything from praying, singing, puppets, skits, preaching, and of course cooking chicken and beans. It takes a lot of chicken, beans, tortilla’s and of course Pico de Gallo, which means cutting onions, tomatoes and hot peppers for the thousands who come to eat. It is a beautiful site to see our brothers and sisters in Christ from both sides of the border come together in celebration of the mercy and goodness of the Lord. It is truly a day of thanksgiving.
Over the years we have seen thousands come to know Jesus Christ as Lord. We have seen friendships grow as people get to know each other and look forward to seeing each other between Christmas and New Years. We have seen the Lord do many wonderful things each year. We always feed more people than we have brought food for. The Lord always gives increase so that no one goes away hungry or without hearing the Good News of the Kingdom.
We would like to invite you to join us this year for the Big Feed.
There are a number of ways you can be involved in the Big Feed. We need people who will start praying and continue to pray for the Big Feed. There are those who the Lord has blessed financially so they can take care of the financial needs of the Big Feed.
Each year we try to make sure every child that comes to the Big Feed gets a gift, which we call "Feed Bags". We are in need of individuals and groups who will make up the Big Feed Bags. Click here to find out how to make and what to put into the Big Feed Bags.
We are also in need of sewing machines and bicycles that will be given away through a drawing at the Big Feed. A bicycle or sewing machine can really change a families life if they win one.
There are those who need to come and join us in the hands on part of the Big Feed. So make plans early to come and share in this special time of celebration and thanksgiving. We are taking reservations now and we usually fill up early so don’t dilly dally around fill out the form now so you can be a part of the most exciting time of the year in ministry.
Let’s join hands together in the work of the Lord so that we can show His love to those who need to know someone loves them. Let’s work together in the harvest fields of the Lord so that we can see a great harvest in the fields that are ripe unto harvest.
